Offsite SEO Optimization
By seovida | August 20, 2007
Many people are of the opinion that optimizing their web pages is most important and work on doing just that, neglecting the more important aspect, off page optimization. Without off page optimization, even the best on page optimization techniques are not going to help any.
Off page optimization makes a world of difference between a top page rank and a low page ranking.
One method of off page optimization is getting websites to link to your site. The more websites that link to yours, the better the ranking. Remember, it’s not only the number of sites, it’s the page rank of the sites that is important. Again, remember some links are favored more by Google than others.
In order to get your site to the top of the search engines with off page optimization, we first have to take a look at the top ten sites in the same niche as ours. We should find out the techniques they used to reach the top. Make a list of these sites.
Now take one of those sites and type link:http://www.sitename.com/
In place of ‘sitename’, you should have the actual site name. Once you do that, you will be able to see the other sites that are linking to your competitor site. Then we should go to one of them and check a few things in order to get some off page optimization done.
First, check the page title of the page linking to that site. See if it contains the site’s main keyword phrase. If it does, then it is favorable to them, if it isn’t, then it is favorable to you.
Then you would want to check on the page, if any anchor text links are present that link to the page of your competitor. What you are trying to do here is see if the keyword of your competitor is in the anchor text itself. If it is present in the anchor text, it is an advantage for them, if it isn’t, then an advantage for you.
Then you would want to check the number of links to their website on the page that is linking to them. Next, you have to see how many links are linking back to the page that is linking to our competitor’s site. Make a note of all these links. This is the number that we would want to beat or at least match.
You would then have to find the page ranks of all these sites. Download the Google viewbar for this. If the page ranks of the sites linking back to your competitor’s site are not too high, you have a better chance of beating that page, when trying off page optimization.
I know off page optimization sounds complicated, but then nobody ever said getting to the top of the search engines is easy. Off page optimization is most important and if you read this a couple of times, you will understand how to go about it. Finally, off page optimization is worth the effort, because that is what is going to get you the desired results.
